hi it’s Pete Moore from Discount guns and ammo and we have an ammo test and it’s both from Remington and it’s Shelton HMR and 22 Winchester magnum wmr before you go any further it’s not a what’s better what’s best both characters offer something my personal choice I prefer the 17 HMR but the 2D Magnum does have its points too on the left is the Simpson HMR with the typical ballistic tip 17 grain bullet and on the right is the 22 wmr with again the typical 40 grain this is a soft tip bullet velocity is quoted by Remington are 2550 for the Simpson HMR and 1910 for the 22wmr rifle wise a quite diverse Choice here that is my Ruger m7717 all-weather with a custom stock John they’ve had it for years and it’s done a lot of rabbits and hairs and things like that believe you me and it’s a good rifle it’ll shoot about half inch at 100 meters no complaints this because I’m not really a 2-2 Magnum person is a Ruger 96 22m 96 was their Lever Action Gun which is a little bit different and I picked it up for a song years ago because it’s nice to have a 2-2 Magnum nothing else so the only thing I would say on this is that the trigger on my Ruger 17 is Superbike it’s a replacement trigger and it’s ridiculously good this 96 came out the box say it’s secondhand when I got it be third hand trig is heavy firm and it just it requires a bit of a pull it’s it’s not a draggy trick it’s just a lot of weight on it I’ve never really bothered to do anything about it plus there’s no moderator on this so what I’m looking for I’m going to shoot this at 50. yards because of the fact is that it gives me an idea of the group I never say scope wise I’ve only got spare six pass going to put on this whereas this has got a much bigger typical varmint type scope but it’ll be interesting to see so 50 yard is for the um for the 22 mag and then with that you can extrapolate what the group might be at 100. I know I zero mine for 100 meters because it shoots pretty flat out to that and basically if it can hit a piece of clay pigeon around about an inch or less which it can do regularly then it’s good enough for shooting shooting rabbits and hairs in the head the center of HMR pretty much took the Rimfire world just by storm when it was introduced a good few years ago as it suddenly gave the Rimfire shooter a rifle with the ability to push out to 200 yards some people say they shoot further adds your hairs at 200 quite easily with it it’s badly wind affected which is going to take on account but when the weather’s right it’s lethal and it shoots like a laser this is a 15 shot BX mag for it just so I find when I’m out doing vomiting because the flash stick makes a pain in the bum to get in and out this is better nothing special stay on the bolt gun safety there this is very much just my new friend and it is shooting as I said before it can hit sub 1 inch probably half Emily targets at 100 100 meters with ease In fairness I’m shooting this 96 off a bag with support because so the trigger is not all that clever so it’s unfed compare it directly to a gun that’s been tricked up with a better trigger and all sorts okay so let’s see how it goes foreign I imagine that if you were to customize this you could take the barrel band off maybe bend it and completely sort of free float the barrel it could be a lot more accurate rifle certainly give it a trigger job but this is as is as a lot of people might buy or use it okay so facts and figures we see them shoot 17 first over the making chess speed chronograph high speed was two seven one three low was two seven zero three the average is two seven zero six feet per second with standard deviation of 5.7 feet per second which is pretty good velocity quoted by Remington was 2550 as you can see that is over 150 feet per second difference which does seem a bit odd but I have found some horns down on that as well so but they’re the figures and I’ve checked them group was 0.63 100 meters which is typical for a good HMR I mean it should be good but but just over half not bad at all an energy with the that figure is set two eight one foot pounds so I was ever it’s shooting more than it should do and it’s it’s got a good lot of energy for it the 22 Mag there we go High Velocity it’s 1818 low is 1780 and averages 1806. stand deviation 17.1 velocity Remington quote is 1910 feet per second so again there’s a bit of a difference there probably sort of just around 150 second difference the group was 1.007 inches which was at 50 meters 50 yards as I said the energy is 297 and at certain ranges this is where the two tube W now scores it does carry more energy and it can carry further out however the trajectory suffers and from my expansion 22 wmr it’s a good killer it’s good on Fox is up close I can see that sort of 100 yards 100 meters roughly it’s it’s effective accurate range because the bullet is not as um ballistically efficient as the more tapered ballistic tip of the HMR so it swings around about I know people swear by this periods are closing Fox gun because it it it it hits them harder whereas people say no I can push out of 200 yards or I can take precise headshots things like that so so this is not a test in the two guns because it’s not fair this is different to this to that but what it is Remington new ammo works well figures aren’t too bad it’s clean no problems with priming no problems with ignition or anything at all which is something that did plague a number of batches of HMR in the past but that seems to be cleared up so really it’s your choice ideally if they’re a proper test a back-to-back test I need to duplicate this in 22 mag which I’m not going to do okay there it is worth consideration I’d like to thank Viking arms the importance of Remington for supplying the ammunition so as ever if you like what you saw comment tell your friends support my website which is um Discount guns and ammo and if you need to speak to me it’s the usual pmore.shooting Sports gmail.com and I’ll see you later good and safe shooting
