HOWs

“HOW” stands for “House of Worship,” and the term applies to all churches, synagogues, mosques, etc.

Like many of my colleagues, I’ve been training HOW security officers and teams in recent years, as violent crime within HOWs is on the increase, particularly when worshipers are congregated in and/or near the physical facility or are attending off-campus religious activities.

When such teams are appointed, organized, and charged with various duties, a competent, comprehensive, written policy quickly becomes an acute necessity for safety, competency, and legal reasons.

My esteemed friend and colleague, Manny Kapelsohn has now composed, and is marketing, such a written policy. I assisted in the final editing.

Manny is simultaneously a renowned attorney and firearms trainer, and the two of us have conducted countless training programs together. Manny also regularly provides professional expert assistance to litigants in deadly-force cases, both criminal and civil, renders critical trial testimony routinely, and is one of the very few who is genuinely qualified to compose such a document.

Firearms And Use Of Force Policy For House Of Worship Armed Congregant Security Teams

“In response to the threat from active shooters, terrorists, and other criminals, thousands of houses of worship throughout the United States have formed armed congregant security teams. Such teams should have written policies regarding their firearms training and use, and use of non-lethal or less lethal force methods as well. Written by one of the country’s leading firearms instructors, expert witnesses, and use of force experts with over 40 years’ experience training thousands of law enforcement and security officers, firearms instructors and armed citizens – including house of worship armed congregant security teams — this product includes a comprehensive, computer-fillable sample Policy document (over 34 pages long), 22 pages of Comments to help the purchaser appreciate the purpose and significance of various Policy sections, and a comprehensive introduction. Used successfully for years by houses of worship and other organizations, this Policy is not legal advice, but provides essential education, guidance and information in forming, training, and supervising an armed congregant security team.”

Individual users will, of course, need to tweak this policy document to specifically apply to their situation. The final version they intend to implement will naturally need to be reviewed and approved by their attorney before being placed in force.

Yet, Manny has done all the hard work for you!

Smart HOW security teams will take advantage of this!
