I don’t believe a gun is a natural right. We don’t (at least we shouldn’t) let people who are abusers, criminals, or psychologically unsound have firearms. If anyone tries to argue that these folks have a natural right to gun ownership, I’d ask them to put themselves in the place of being a victim of one of these people. Whether you have a gun yourself, you quickly will understand that you don’t want your aggressor to have one.
The 2nd amendment simply says “arms”. It never says guns. It says a “well regulated militia” is necessary, not “private citizens”. In fact, if you were to be very literal, the ONLY reason people are granted the right to bear arms is for the protection of THE STATE, not individual liberty or self-defense. Neither of those are stated anywhere in the amendment.
Obviously we as a society have come to interpret this differently, but the text is the text. If you want to be a traditionalist, that’s all you should be referring to.
Now, if one of these bad guys wants to buy a baseball bat or a knife, there is little to stop them. They now have “arms”, so their rights are fulfilled. Guns are unique in that they are capable of being far more destructive than these other weapons. We limit certain kinds of weapons like explosives, cannons, nuclear devices, etc from the average citizen. And we do this because not all arms are equal and the right to arms is not a “natural” one, but one that is granted based on certain factors about the particular weapon.CAgunsFrgty

Gonna get some downvotes, but don't care.
