WICHITA, KS — April 4, 2025 — A woman staying at a northeast Wichita hotel shot her boyfriend in self-defense Friday night after he violently threatened her for the second time in one evening.
According to the Wichita Police Department, the first confrontation began around 6:30 p.m. when the 32-year-old man assaulted his 33-year-old girlfriend with a knife and stole from her. She suffered minor injuries, but police were not called at that time.
Later that night, the man returned to the Super 8 by Wyndham near 37th Street North and Rock Road. This time, police say he threatened both his girlfriend and hotel staff again with the knife.
Fearing for her life, the woman pulled a firearm and shot him once. Officers responded to the scene around 9:07 p.m. The man was taken to a local hospital in critical condition. Once he is discharged, police say he will be arrested and charged.
The woman remained at the scene, fully cooperated with detectives, and was released after questioning.
Knife to a Gun Fight

Police confirmed that the woman was legally justified in defending herself. No charges are expected against her.
