Savage Axis: Versatile and Affordable Precision Rifles
The Savage Axis series has established itself as one of the most reliable and versatile lines of rifles for hunters and shooting enthusiasts. Known for its combination of affordability, accuracy, and performance, the series ranges from the standard Axis 2 to the more advanced Axis 2 Pro and Axis 2 Precision models, catering to both beginners and experienced marksmen.
Savage Axis Models and Variants
The Axis 2 is the foundation of the series, featuring Savage’s signature AccuTrigger system for a crisp, safe, and adjustable trigger pull. For shooters seeking enhanced performance, the Axis 2 Pro offers a factory-installed scope base, improved stock ergonomics, and upgraded barrels. Meanwhile, the Axis 2 Precision targets long-range shooters, providing tighter tolerances and better accuracy for precision hunting or competition shooting.
Caliber options are extensive, making the Axis series highly versatile. Popular models include the Savage Axis 308, Axis 243, Axis 270, Axis 6.5 Creedmoor, Axis 2 6.5 Creedmoor, Axis 22-250, Axis 2 30-06, Axis II 6.5 Creedmoor, Axis 2 XP 308, and Axis 2 300 Blackout. Whether hunting deer, hogs, or varmints, there’s an Axis rifle suited for almost every scenario.
Stock Options and Customization
The Savage Axis stock comes in multiple options including standard synthetic, camouflage, and upgraded designs. Shooters looking for a more personalized fit often upgrade to the Savage Axis with Boyds stock, which enhances ergonomics, handling, and aesthetics. These stock options improve comfort during long hunting trips and provide better control for accurate shots.
Performance and Accuracy
Precision is a standout feature of the Axis 2 Precision and Axis Precision models. Chambered in cartridges such as the 6.5 Creedmoor, these rifles offer excellent long-range accuracy. The XP variants, including the Axis XP and Axis 2 XP, come with extended magazines and premium barrels to maximize performance in rugged environments. Hunters and target shooters alike appreciate the combination of accuracy, reliability, and affordable pricing.
Hunting and Versatility
The Savage Axis series is ideal for various hunting applications. The Axis 243, Axis 270, and Axis 308 models are lightweight yet accurate, perfect for deer and medium game. Smaller calibers like the Axis 22-250 are well-suited for varmints, while the Axis 2 300 Blackout caters to specialized hunting needs. For precision shooting enthusiasts, models such as the Axis 2 Precision 6.5 Creedmoor provide exceptional performance without the premium price tag of higher-end rifles.
Comparison and Alternatives
While some shooters might consider pistols like the Beretta 92x Full Size for self-defense, the Savage Axis series excels in hunting and long-range shooting. Its wide selection of calibers, stock options, and precision models makes it a more versatile choice for outdoor enthusiasts.
Conclusion
The Savage Axis lineup successfully balances affordability, accuracy, and versatility. GOOD Based on 174 reviews Posted on Billy DunnAugust 19, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Nice place for a quick shoot. Friendly staff.Posted on Patrick SalazarJuly 15, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. It was my first time at Discount. They had a magazine I haven’t been able to find at other local stores. They had a great selection all around. The staff was 10x friendlier and eager to assist me than any other shop. I haven’t tried the range yet but I will definitely be backPosted on Jonathan JonesMay 16, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The staff seems very friendly and knowledgeable. However, ammo selection is pretty weak and everything seems to be priced higher than everywhere else. Kind of a misleading company name.Posted on Leonard MayApril 29, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Love this place won’t go anywhere else. Come here every other week to buy ammo. Everyone is super friendly and welcomingPosted on Yasir HasanApril 11, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. One of my favorite gun stores in the valley. I’ve made some purchases from this store and also have a range pass. I found so many great stuff here.Posted on Jesus JimenezApril 9, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. In the past day, Discount Guns and Ammo has removed the information stating that one must have a 'driver's license' in order to purchase from their store.Posted on bob brownMarch 15, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Love the range here! Prices are very fair for range time and rentals. The guys behind the counter were helpful and friendly. This place is awesome, I would absolutely recommend.Posted on Jonathan SMarch 12, 2023.Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The staff is amazing and friendly and knowledgeable. The facilities need a MASSIVE renovation and/or upgrade, to the point where, when I went to the indoor range today, I almost could not see the backstop because of all the smoke / residue / etc. floating in the air. The excuse was that they had a lot of people at the range today, but, really, that air should be circulating constantly and significantly, and I honestly didn't feel safe spending more than 30 minutes on the range, if even that. TL;DR: they need to check their exhaust fans or filters or both.
